Nettie Ruth Brown

Nettie Ruth Brown began her career in 4-H in Tennessee as a Home Demonstration Agent. In 1960 she returned to St. Johns County and assumed responsibilities for the Home Economics and girls 4-H programs. She served as the Interim County Extension Director for two years, and in 1978 assumed responsibility for the county 4-H program. She held the position of 4-H Coordinator until her retirement in 1985.

During her years in Extension she was active in various professional organizations, and in 1975 served as President of the National Association of Extension Home Economists. Even though she officially retired from 4-H in 1985, she remains an active supporter of Extension programs.

When she says the words “I’ve been thinking”; those who know her best cringe, because they know she has a project and some of us are going to “learn by doing.”
