Marilyn Halusky
Marilyn Halusky, an integral part of 4-H for the last 42 years, has been elected to the Florida 4-H Hall of Fame. Halusky was one of five individuals inducted in 2007 at ceremonies held on July 26th at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Halusky, from Duval County, was an Extension 4-H Agent for 29 years. She has said that “helping young people use their talents, practice their leadership skills, and work with others of diverse backgrounds has made 4-H fun and has enriched my life.”
Having had a hard time standing in front of class to give a book report as a youth, she saw the need for young people to learn public speaking skills early in their life and vowed to provide that opportunity for as many youth as possible. As a result, Duval County 4-H became known for the large number of members enrolled in public speaking.
She has established and coordinated district “Adult Volunteer Training Day” on weekends, coordinating them for 10 years as part of her personal goal of providing unique training opportunities for youth and adults. She was a dedicated, tireless and creative 4-H agent and continues that dedication as a volunteer today.
The four other 2007 inductees are: Dr. E.T. York of Alachua County; Mr. Robert Renner of Marion County; Gene and Cordella LaRoe of Lake County.
