Robert Renner
Robert Renner, an integral part of 4-H for the last 30-plus years, has been elected to the Florida 4-H Hall of Fame. Renner was one of five individuals inducted in 2007 at ceremonies held on July 26th at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
During his 30-year tenure as a 4-H Extension Agent, Renner was directly involved with many projects including the development of the 4-H Honor Club in Marion County. He was a charter member of the Florida Association of Extension 4-H Agents, and was a National Association of Extension Agents trustee.
Renner implemented the first summer camp to utilize senior 4-H members in leadership rolls and the development of team building as part of the program. Bob also wrote the Florida 4-H Embryology project book and developed the first sheep show in Florida.
Even though he is no longer employed by Extension, he still finds time to volunteer for the program he loves. He currently teaches poultry judging to Marion County 4-H’ers, participates annually in the Marion County 4-H Golf Tournament and serves as instructor for Marion County’s Community Technical and Adult Education at the Sherriff’s Inmate Farm in Ocala. There, he utilizes 4-H curriculum to instruct inmates in horticulture and poultry production.
Mr. Renner was inducted into the Marion County Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2004 and is now a member of the Florida 4-H Hall of Fame.
The four other 2007 inductees are: Dr. E.T. York of Alachua County; Mrs. Marilyn Halusky of Duval County; Gene and Cordella LaRoe of Lake County.
