Cat Project
In the 4-H Cat projects, you will learn:
- how to identify breeds and select quality cats;
- best practices for animal care and management;
- safe and ethical practices for animal welfare;
- showing skills; and
- skills such as decision-making, getting along with others, self-responsibility, planning and organizing, and improving your knowledge of general science and technology.
Project Materials (For Youth Ages 8-18)
As you expand your knowledge on cats through the many engaging activities in this series, you will learn how to select a cat companion, identify the different cat breeds and parts of a cat, showmanship, cat senses, animal welfare and many other fun aspects of your feline friend.

Cloverbuds (Ages 5-7)
- There is no project guide for this level.
Level 1 (Ages 8-10)
- Purr-fect Pals will teach selection, breed identification, parts identification, handling, grooming, showing and budgeting, as well as how to identify parasites and control fleas. Available through National
4-H Council.
Level 2 (Ages 11-13)
- Climbing Up will explore breeds, cat senses, shows, tricks, signs of illness and health, cat sounds, emergency situations, feeding, special diets and traveling with a cat. Available through National 4-H Council.
Level 3 (Ages 14-18)
- Leaping Forward will explore veterinary procedures, body systems, diseases, reproduction, genetics, older cat needs, behavior, showmanship, community laws, animal welfare and personal strengths. Available through National 4-H Council.
Leader/Helper Guide
This Helper's Guide will help you support youth in his or her efforts to set goals and complete activities, as well as providing resources for the member's to use in completing the series. Available through National 4-H Council.
