Child Development Project

In the 4-H Child Development projects, you will learn:

  • how to process information to make effective decisions and positive choices;
  • how to effectively communicate with others;
  • to develop and maintain positive relationships with others;
  • to demonstrate knowledge/skills or improved practices for personal safety; and
  • skills such as decision-making, getting along with others, planning and organizing, and responsibility.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT
(For Youth Ages 8-18)

This curriculum addresses issues related to you when you are on your own, such as: what you can do to handle emergencies,
develop home-alone skills, stay healthy and relate appropriately to others. These guides, wrapped around the newly revised American Red Cross Baby-sitting curriculum, provide dozens of fun, interesting and challenging activities to help you care for yourself, your family and your community.

Level 1 (Ages 8-10)

  • Growing on My Own teaches 4-Hers how they grow and develop; how to inspect toddler's toys and make their home hazard free. They learn more about their roles in life, how to handle their emotions and accept differences in others. Available through National 4-H Council

Level 2 (Ages 11-13)

  • Growing with Others teaches 4-Hers about self care, rules, responsibility, and safety and are introduced to babysitting. They work with others and gain awareness of common dangers in their world. Available through National 4-H Council

Level 3 (Ages 14-18)

  • Growing in Communities lets 4-Hers explore child development careers, gain experience as a teacher or coach, participate in a community service project and learn that children with different abilities have different needs Available through National 4-H Council.

Leader/Helper Guide

This Helper's Guide will help you support youth in his or her efforts to set goals and complete activities, as well as providing resources for the member's to use in completing the series. Available through National 4-H Council.  

 

BABYSITTING
(For Youth Ages 11-18)

Youth will learn the do's an don'ts of babysitting from professional caregivers, parents, teachers and friends with the help of these fun and creative manuals.  Youth can join in projects and activities and learn how to make money while doing the job right!
