Polycom

Polycom videoconferencing machines are available at almost all Florida Extension offices and IFAS sites, including various campus conference rooms, and some individual offices. A software version, Polycom PVX, is available on some laptops. Polycom videoconferences use the internet, the are no telephone charges to hold a conference. UF/IFAS should use the free UF videoconferencing bridge which allows the fastest connection speed for each Polycom, up to 50 simultaneous connections, voice-only connections via telephone (Gainesville #), and text messages in chat..

Unless Polycoms connect through the UFbridge, the slowest connection speed slows the videoconference for all users. The delay can be significant if demonstrating something on a website or an internet application. Verbal training sessions with PowerPoint slides work quite well.

FYCS and 4-H have purchased a Polycom RSS 2000 recorder which can record your polycom session. The recorded session can be played-back whenever it is convenient by anyone with an internet connection and Windows Media Player.

A Polycom machine can connect with either 3 (Marilyn Norman, 4-H RSAs, Nayda Torres - VSX7800) or 5 (4-H & FYCS conference room - VSX8800 models) other Polycoms (or PCs running Polycom PVX software) without needing to use the UF Codian Bridge. The 4-H Polycom RSS 2000 recorder counts as 1 connection.

UF’s Codian Bridge:
A brief guide on UF’s Codian Bridge was created by Louise Ryan , IT from the Northwest District at  http://nwdistrict.ifas.ufl.edu/it/Codian%20Bridge/player.html

List of Active or Scheduled UF Video Conferences: http://at.ufl.edu/~video/service2/public/pub_list.php
Ad-Hoc conferences won't be listed, you have to know the conference ID to join them.  Unless you submit a Service Request to schedule your video conference 3 days in advance, you may get bumped in the middle of a meeting by someone who reserved the network bandwidth on the bridge (MCU) Multipoint Conferencing Unit.  For more information, call UF Video Conference services at (352) 392-2533.

General Information about UF Video Conference services is at
